WEÕRE CALLING it The One Where Ross Stole Some Beer. Last week, David Schwimmer – famous for playing Ross in Friends – had the perfect response to the accusation that he resembled an alleged thief.

After the suspect was caught clutching a crate of beer on CCTV, police in Blackpool posted an image of the man online. Thousands of Facebook users pointed out he bore an uncanny resemblance to David’s character, Ross Geller. Cue the Friends references online, with one social media user quipping: ‘Shouldn’t he be at work… or is he on a break?’, while another wrote: ‘PIVOT’. Even Dumfries Police got involved, warning civilians to ‘keep away… he is known to have studied karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the state of total awareness’.

David then posted a parody video on his social media to dispel the rumours, showing him carrying a crate of beer as he nervously shuffled past the camera. ‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me,’ he wrote alongside the video. ‘As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation. #Itwasntme.’

Police later denied that the suspect was David. Which can mean only one thing: it was Russ.

David Schwimmer, not to be confused with Ross, Russ, the Holiday Armadillo, or a Blackpool thief!
