Little Boots Taste It It’s not quite the upbeat electronic disco of former days, but we’re looking forward to seeing where this dark direction will take Little Boots. n Emmy The Great Swimming Pool Featuring him-off-Wild-Beasts on BVs, this atmospheric indie love-in trembles with delicacy. Fragile and verging on hysterical melodrama, but lovely all the same. n Sharks Wait If Icona Pop were S Club 7 – IMAGINE! – then Sharks would be their S Club Juniors. It’s an even brattier version of their pounding Swedo-pop. n Taylor Swift Style Universally acknowledged as the best track on 1989, it borrows quite heavily from Katy Perry’s trick of wrapping American nostalgia around a Robyn offcut. n Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé Feeling Myself Like the swept up scraps of other superior songs, it sounds patchy and minimal. The best bit is when one of them – presumably a Nicki Minaj alter ego – says ‘carry on.’ n Gwen Stefani Spark The Fire Picking up where Wind It Up left off, this is the real comeback single for Stefani, full of back-in-yer-face bravado and the kind of song that makes you want to desk dance. n Le Youth Real Adding to the Duke Dumont school of 90s nostalgia for today, the house pianos and spliced up diva vocal are to the letter. n Madonna ft Avicii Rebel Heart Daddy issues set to a disco beat, she’s back on the EDM bandwagon with a heavily scored string section providing the superbra support. n
