Ex Machina Cinema

GT (UK) - - SCREEN -

Even if you haven’t heard of him, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with Alex Garland’s work. Having written The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Dredd, his directorial debut is of immediate interest. Thankfully, Ex Machina is a psychological sci-fi thriller of the smartest, most stylish order.

Computer coder Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) wins a golden ticket to spend a week with his reclusive billionaire boss Nathan (Oscar Isaac) in his mountain retreat, and soon realises his purpose – to test the next leap in artificial intelligence, a humanoid robot named Eva (Alicia Vikander). Superbly acted, serenely shot and magnetic until the last shot.
