Nimmo are a five-piece band fronted by Sarah and Reva, who’ve been BFFs since they were 11.
Sarah and Reva are so close, they can’t imagine dating someone the other didn’t like. “We’ve tried that and it was just a really strange dynamic, so we ended up ditching them both,” Sarah says. “Now we’re both like, ‘It’s me or her!’”
Their musical influences are super-diverse – Morrissey, Fleetwood Mac, dance tunes heard at teenage raves – but all Nimmo songs have something in common. “They all have this kind of tight, physical, aggressive energy,” Reva explains. “And they all come from a very real place, emotionally.”
Check out Dilute This, a percolating electro-pop song about the “bored love” stage of a relationship, and UnYoung, a catchy house track that deals with the fear of watching your parents get older.
They recently supported Years & Years on tour and say it was “a dream gig”. Reva explains: “Because of everything Olly [Alexander] and the band stand for, you go on stage knowing there’s going to be acceptance. Even their 13-year-old fans are super-liberal, which is kind of mind-blowing, really.”
“Olly sexually liberates the entire room,” Sarah adds. “Men, women, whoever... They all wanna go and dutty wine with him.”
They want their debut album, due this autumn, to have a “real weight” to it. “We want people to get down ‘n’ dirty to it for five hours at a party, but also to put it in their headphones and really get into the words.”
