PrEP, mean­ing pre-ex­po­sure pro­phy­laxis, is the method of us­ing anti-HIV drugs to re­duce the risk of HIV-neg­a­tive peo­ple be­com­ing HIV-pos­i­tive. Tru­vada is a com­bi­na­tion of two HIV med­i­ca­tions – teno­fovir and emtric­itabine – taken as part of PrEP. When used daily, Tru­vada for PrEP pro­vides a 92-99% re­duc­tion in HIV risk.
