Supercub is a singersongwriter from the Wirral who specialises in “quirky, quotable” electro-pop songs with “big anthemic choruses”.

Obviously he’s not called Supercub on his birth certificate. “But I have quite a boring real name that makes me sound like a vicar or a civil servant. Supercub is catchy and exciting and puts you in mind of a hairy homosexual with a little more to love. Which is me.”

His brilliant new single All Kinds of Amazing has a cute animated video packed with camp pop culture references. Cher and Bette Midler pop up in the same frame, which is pretty much the dream, right?

Supercub says the song itself is a “barnstorming breakup anthem” inspired by a guy he split from a couple of years ago and couldn’t quite shake off.

“Literally he’d be popping up everywhere – in the vegetable aisle at the supermarket, in the showers at the gym. So maybe he’s not so much the one who got away, as the one who wouldn’t go away.”

Randomly, the guy in question added Supercub on Facebook the other day, but he hasn’t realised the song is about him yet.

Is it best to keep in the dark? “Yeah, the dark’s probably the best place for him.”
