Par­ents ‘at­tack teach­ers’

MORE than one i n 10 head­teach­ers has been at­tacked by a par­ent of a pupil at their school, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures re­leased to­day.

School lead­ers have been punched, kicked, spat on, head-butted, bit­ten, at­tacked with chairs and ta­bles and sex­u­ally as­saulted, the Na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of Head Teach­ers (NAHT) said.

In a sur vey, al­most 75 per cent of those quizzed said they had suf­fered ver­bal abuse or threats from a par­ent in the last five years.

Some 20 per cent had been vic­timised on a so­cial net­work­ing site and more than 68 per cent said par­ents’ be­hav­iour to­wards teach­ers had wors­ened over time., with some par­ents turned up at school drunk or high on drugs.

Al­most 1,400 mem­bers of the NAHT took part in the sur­vey this month.
