Parents ‘attack teachers’
MORE than one i n 10 headteachers has been attacked by a parent of a pupil at their school, according to figures released today.
School leaders have been punched, kicked, spat on, head-butted, bitten, attacked with chairs and tables and sexually assaulted, the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) said.
In a sur vey, almost 75 per cent of those quizzed said they had suffered verbal abuse or threats from a parent in the last five years.
Some 20 per cent had been victimised on a social networking site and more than 68 per cent said parents’ behaviour towards teachers had worsened over time., with some parents turned up at school drunk or high on drugs.
Almost 1,400 members of the NAHT took part in the survey this month.
