Holders Rastrick have new skipper
DIVISION Three teams will be looking to spring a surprise or two tomorrow follow their inclusion in this year’s Sunday Section Rod Warhurst Cup competition.
The withdrawal of Mytholmroyd has left 24 clubs, split into four round robin groups of six teams. The top club from each group qualifying for the semi finals.
Holders Rastrick, under new leader Jason Middleton, find themselves in one of the weaker looking groups with an opening game against neighbours Blackley at Round Hill.
The visitors are the only other first division side in the group, but only just avoided relegation last season, so the home men will have high hopes of getting their 2011 campaign off to a winning start.
The 2010 runners up Norden open at Illingworth, but with Lightcliffe and Northowram Fields, who romped to the third division title with a record points haul last season, also in the group progression will be a difficult task.
Booth, who have an excellent record in this competition, find themselves starting at home to promoted Southowram.
With four second division teams in their group, a semi final berth looks a minimum for the Broad Fold men, who are led by the returning Tony Hiley.
The final group pits Triangle, opening at Outlane, against Brad- shaw from the second division and four third division sides, so the Grassy Bottom men will be expected to reach the semi final stage without much difficulty.
There are no games next week due to the Parish Cup and Crossley Shield first rounds. TOMORROW - Rod Warhurst Cup, group A: Barkisland v Sowerby bridge, Booth v Southowram, SBCI v Old Crossleyans.
