Lan­cashire said: “Happy Val­ley is a dark, funny, multi-lay­ered thriller re­volv­ing around the per­sonal and pro­fes­sional life of Cather­ine, a ded­i­cated, ex­pe­ri­enced, hard­work­ing cop­per. She is also a be­reaved mother who looks af­ter her or­phaned grand­child.

“It’s an emo­tional, com­plex, chal­leng­ing role. I’m ter­ri­fied, ex­hausted and freez­ing cold but I wouldn’t want to be any­where else.”

Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Val­ley writer Sally Wain­wright has said that Calderdale has fan­tas­tic lo­ca­tions for film­ing.

Scenes from both se­ries were filmed in the area in­clud­ing on lo­ca­tion at Halifax Town Hall, the Old Po­lice Sta­tion and Jubliee Re­fresh­ment Rooms at Sowerby Bridge.

Sally said: “Calderdale is a very beau­ti­ful place to live and I’m so glad that we got to film there as it looks stun­ning on screen.”

Fea­ture film The Ro­man shot many of its scenes around Cragg Vale.
