Childhood sweethearts Andrew and Sarah Banks desperately tried for a baby for years before they both sought conception through in vitro fertilisation IVF. Both originally from Southowram, they met on the school bus aged 16, in 1998. After tying the knot, seven years ago, they planned to extend their unit by bringing a child into the world. But, as they soon discovered, ‘life’ does not always work to plan and eventually they had to rethink their way around something so many of us take as life’s given. Like many modern couples, both had stressful jobs - Andy works as an Ecommerce manager and Sarah was working as a retail product manager when they were trying for a baby. After four years of trying to conceive naturally, the couple visited their local GP to discuss their situation. Andrew and Sarah were referred to Calderdale Royal’s Assisted Conception Unit for NHS IVF treatment. Sarah said: “Initially, it was hard and upsetting but the staff were fantastic in making the process easier. “We kept in mind that we were visiting the hospital for something so positive - for life and
