among the win­ners af­ter de­vel­op­ing a world­wide hit with its unique bar­rier prod­uct.

Di­rec­tor James Smith said: “We be­gan as man­u­fac­tur­ers of shrink wrap in 1984, be­fore de­vel­op­ing ex­tru­sion skills that al­lowed us to move on to pro­duc­ing cores and plas­tic pal­lets.

“One of those pal­lets was stood on its side in the of­fice one day, and we re­alised it looked like a fence. Fences turned in to safety bar­ri­ers, and that’s where our suc­cess story be­gan.”

“We’re ab­so­lutely elated to be cho­sen as a win­ner of the UK’s high­est ac­co­lade for busi­ness suc­cess, and thrilled to be recog­nised as one of the best firms in the coun­try for in­ter­na­tional trade. “

Eric Binns, who has sup­ported over 600 busi­ness start-ups in Calderdale, has worked as Calderdale Coun­cil’s Busi­ness En­ter­prise Of­fi­cer since 2009.

He has been in­volved in busi­ness sup­port for 10 years, start­ing out with Busi­ness Link and the Mid-York­shire Cham­ber of Com­merce. Eric has also worked as a vol­un­teer busi­ness men­tor with Busi­ness Link and York­shire Agri­cul­tural So­ci­ety.

He will re­ceive his award on July 14 at the Depart­ment for Busi­ness, In­no­va­tion & Skills head­quar­ters in West­min­ster.

Mr Binns said: “It is a great hon­our to re­ceive this pres­tig- ious award.

“I am very grate­ful for the recog­ni­tion for the role that I have played in new busi­ness sup­port and pro­mo­tion dur­ing the past 10 years.

“It is a priv­i­lege and very re­ward­ing per­son­ally to be in a po­si­tion to be able to con­trib­ute to the growth of our lo­cal busi­ness com­mu­nity and par­tic­u­larly grat­i­fy­ingly so within my home town.”

El­land-based travel agent Ali­son Jack­son, who runs her own home-based travel busi­ness as part of leading in­de­pen­dent travel com­pany Travel Coun­sel­lors, is also cel­e­brat­ing af­ter the com­pany was awarded the Queen’s Award for En­ter­prise.

The com­pany has one of the high­est scores in the world for cus­tomer loy­alty and re­ceived the award hav­ing suc­cess­fully brought its unique busi­ness model to over­seas mar­kets.

Ali­son said: “I am thrilled the com­pany has re­ceived this fan­tas­tic ac­co­lade.”

All the win­ners will at­tend a spe­cial re­cep­tion at Buck­ing­ham Palace.
