‘A world class brass band’
The Brooksbank School is honoured and delighted to be hosting a concert starring the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Cast your mind back to the coal and cornets film ‘Brassed Off’ and you may remember the heart-warming story of Grimethorpe’s rise to the top of the brass band game within a week of pit closure.
International stardom resulted and Grimethorpe Colliery Band have led the field of excellence ever since.
On May 22 Grimethorpe are to play in the school main hall in a concert which will also feature local stars, Elland Silver Band.
Mr Jamie Cooper, who is Head of Music at the school, is especially pleased to bring the concert to fruition. Apart from teaching music, Mr Cooper also happens to play cornet in the band and even he was surprised at the revelation!
“This is a world class brass band,” said Mr Cooper, “it’s such a big gig for us as a school. We are as lucky to be able to host Grimethorpe as they rarely play outside large concert halls.”
For classical music lovers, June 10 is a date not to be missed when Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra, once again, grace the main hall at Brooksbank.
Tickets prices start from £4 and £3 for concessions. Available from: bbs.calderdale.sch.uk/schoolshop.
