Young star to com­pete in UK ath­letic fi­nals

A young prodigy from Hal­i­fax is pre­par­ing to com­pete in the UK Sportshall Ath­let­ics Fi­nal 2015 in Manch­ester this week­end af­ter be­ing crowned win­ner of the Un­der 15’s York­shire & Hum­ber Re­gional Fi­nals. Anna Dickie con­trib­uted mas­sively to the West York­shire team suc­cess in reach­ing the UK fi­nals af­ter win­ning two of her three in­di­vid­ual events, claim­ing first in both the four Lap Race and Stand­ing Long Jump in last month’s qual­i­fiers at the Airco Arena in Hull. Anna, who also claimed sec­ond in the Shot Put af­ter throw­ing a dis­tance of 8.39m, will be along­side the most suc­cess­ful young ath­letes from across the UK when they battle it out to win the UK Cham­pion ti­tle this Sun­day. The Calderdale School girl com­peted in this year’s Sport- shall Ath­let­ics West York­shire School Games, which were staged at the town’s North Bridge Leisure Cen­tre, be­fore be­ing picked to rep­re­sent West York­shire.

Sportshall Ath­let­ics, which is now the largest com­pe­ti­tion within the School Games frame­work, is an in­door form of track and field for chil­dren be­tween the ages of four and 16.

The fi­nals will be staged at Manch­ester’s Sportc­ity, which was used to host the 2002 Com­mon­wealth Games.
