Let’s go that extra length for charity
Rishworth Swimming Club went to great lengths for a good cause when it hosted a swimathon in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. About 40 people took part in the event last weekend and the club are hoping it will have raised around £ 3,500 for the charity.
Rishworth were one of a number of clubs across the country to take part in the Swimathon, which is the UK’s biggest swimming fundraising event.
Competitors could choose to swim 1.5km, which works out at 66 lengths, 2.5km, which is 110 lengths, or 5mk, which is 219 lengths.
Jamie Milne, from the club, said: “It was a fantastic friendly atmosphere for young and old members to take part in and even attracted new faces to the club - one family came from Maidstone.
“I can’t thank everyone enough who took part and volunteered in the event help to make it such a special day for a much worthy cause.
“I will be uploading people’s times on the Swimathon website so they can see their national ranking.
“It was a great achievement all round, especially by a few people who surprised themselves along the way of what they can do when they push themselves to help make a difference to other people lives.”
