Let’s go that ex­tra length for char­ity

Rish­worth Swim­ming Club went to great lengths for a good cause when it hosted a swimathon in aid of Marie Curie Can­cer Care. About 40 peo­ple took part in the event last week­end and the club are hop­ing it will have raised around £ 3,500 for the char­ity.

Rish­worth were one of a num­ber of clubs across the coun­try to take part in the Swimathon, which is the UK’s big­gest swim­ming fundrais­ing event.

Com­peti­tors could choose to swim 1.5km, which works out at 66 lengths, 2.5km, which is 110 lengths, or 5mk, which is 219 lengths.

Jamie Milne, from the club, said: “It was a fan­tas­tic friendly at­mos­phere for young and old mem­bers to take part in and even at­tracted new faces to the club - one fam­ily came from Maid­stone.

“I can’t thank ev­ery­one enough who took part and vol­un­teered in the event help to make it such a spe­cial day for a much wor­thy cause.

“I will be up­load­ing peo­ple’s times on the Swimathon web­site so they can see their na­tional rank­ing.

“It was a great achieve­ment all round, es­pe­cially by a few peo­ple who sur­prised them­selves along the way of what they can do when they push them­selves to help make a dif­fer­ence to other peo­ple lives.”
