Don’t hurt Ger­many

It is re­mark­able that some let­ters in the Courier, still an­tic­i­pat­ing a speedy Al­lied victory, were al­ready con­sid­er­ing the treat­ment of Ger­many af­ter the war. They had com­mented that Ger­many should not be hu­mil­i­ated in a peace treaty, as this could lay the seeds for fur­ther con­flict in the fu­ture. The au­thor of the ar­ti­cle, John Higham, was the Lib­eral MP for Sowerby and was a regular con­trib­u­tor to the Courier.
