Long March 2015

To celebrate 50 years of walking around the roads of Calderdale more than 70 walkers set off at 11.30pm Easter Sunday night from the YCMA and walked up to 30 miles sponsored to raise money for Christian Aid. Ben Cockerill, 14, the youngest walker, was invited to present the proceeds of the Long March at the next Christian Aid Committee meeting where he was proud to hand over a preliminary cheque for £3,000 to the Mayor of Halifax Lisa Lambert (pictured, right). Ben also walked with his school friend Tyrique Bell, both of Abbey Grange C of E School in Leeds. His mum Lucie was also a sponsored walker. Ben’s father Craig, curriculum team leader for music at Allerton High School has also walked three times in previous years. If anyone is interested in registering for next year’s Long March, please visit the Halifax Long March website.
