Katerina braves the close shave for cause
A woman ‘braved the shave’ for a good cause when she let her hairdresser loose with a razor all in the name of a good cause. Katerina Fisher, 45, had her hair completely shaved off at Bilouair hairdressers, Greetland, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
It’s a charity close to Katerina’s heart and she has raised a fantastic £600 in donations.
“Macmillan nurses are such a great help to so many people that I wanted to do something to help fund the work they do,” Katerina, who lives in West Vale, said.
“They have helped family members and they were lined up to help my dad Geoffrey, but unfortunately he never made it home.
“I used to go on a lot of long walks, but I’ve been having trouble with my knees so I thought ‘what can be my next challenge?’
“It felt weird when I was getting it done and tickled, but I’m really glad I did it.
“I don’t think my husband thought I was going to go through with it, but he lent the haidresser his razor so I could get it done.
“It was lovely when I walked into the pub afterwards and everyone clapped me.”
Katerina undertook the challenge as part of the charity’s ‘Brave the Shave’ month, which has run throughout August. Its aim is to encourage people to stand alongside men and women battling cancer.
Macmillan offers support to all those affected by cancer - not just patients, but carers, families and communities.
