Blooming successful show

Halifax Courier - - Southowram Annual Show - By Cassie Irving

Southowram Horticultural and Allotments Society’s 80th Annual Show was a blooming success.

The flower show was held at Withinfields School on Saturday and attracted 534 exhibits from 57 exhibitors.

There were classes for vegetables, flowers, floral art, cookery, children, crafts and photography.

Society chairman, Arthur Bastide, said: “It was the best show I can remember at Southowram. The quality of the exhibits was as good as I have seen and, in particular, the gladioli exhibits were exceptional. Several of the judges commented on the very high standard. Competition was really keen, with only two points separating the top three exhibitors in the horticulture classes.

“The show was well supported by the public, and I’d like to thank all those who put in a lot of hard work to make the show happen.”
