Darren caps fine year with cup win
Darren Davison’s dream year scaled new heights last Saturday with an impressive success in the Ogden Cup. The three-handicapper won Halifax Golf Club’s most presitigious competition for a third time with nett scores of 67 and 69.
The event had been due to take place at Halifax’s Open Week in June but was postponed because of bad weather.
There were beautiful playing conditions this time and a field of 70 players teed off from 6.30am with several past winners in the field.
The Captains of Bradley Hall and West End, Dave Deadman and Gordon Abernethy, joined Halifax Captain Simon Willis for their third 36 hole competition of the year.
Davison finished one shot ahead of Keighley’s Liam Blacka.
He was adding to his earlier 2015 wins in the Joe Robinson Trophy on Captain’s Weekend and victory on Lady Captain’s Day.
He has also helped Halifax win thesecond division of the Halifax Huddersfield Union’s Scratch League.
Willis said the whole day had been a great success and Meltham’s Tony Hellawell had particular reason to remember it - he had a hole in one on the short second hole. Ogden Cup results:
