South Lanarkshire HQ raises a special flag to mark Armed Forces Day

-

A specially-commissioned flag was raised outside South Lanarkshire Council headquarters in Hamilton to mark Armed Forces Day.

It was raised on Saturday, June 10, to increase public awareness of the vital role that the Armed Forces play in maintaining the security and well-being of the country.

Armed Forces Day takes place this Saturday, June 24.

The ceremony was opened by Provost Ian Mcallan and prayers were led by the Reverend James Gibson. Also in attendance were Depute Lord Lieutenant Sheriff Bobby Dixon, councillors and officers from the council, regular soldiers, reservists and the cadets.

Provost Mcallan said:“this event conveys our deepest gratitude for the sacrifices that those in active service are unfortunately still asked to make all too often to retain the freedom the rest of us enjoy.

“It is this selfless dedication to duty in times of war, providing humanitarian relief or as international peace keepers – often in the most trying and dangerous conditions – that we must never take for granted.

“The raising of this flag reflects our thanks for everything they do to keep us safe and secure at home and abroad.”
