Darian Mackinnon urged Hamilton’s young players to use Friday’s defeat against Celtic as an example of playing at the top level – but says he’s glad they don’t have to do that every week.

The midfielder tried his best to stop Celtic’s attack but found himself up against formidable opposition that was bang on form. But he knows that’s not something Accies will face on a regular basis.

Daz said: “It’s great to be up against players like Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts. Not so much for me, because I’m getting older now, but for younger guys like Greg Docherty and Scott Mcmann.

“They see what the top level is now so they know if they want to get there that’s what they’ll face every week. It’s good for them.

“Celtic put out a strong side, we set out to have a go, but obviously it was a long night for us and just one we need to put behind us.

“We’re not going to face that quality every week, they had every one of their players bang at it, every one of them are at the top level.

“Patrick Roberts is top drawer, his movement is amazing, he can turn on a sixpence, but that’s what you want to play against because you can test yourself.

“We could have passed it better, to be honest. I thought some of us tried to but other people didn’t really want it, but it’s difficult to play against teams like that.

“In games like that you need to keep the ball because if you don’t it will just keep coming back at you, and that’s what
