Hamilton Advertiser - - NEWS -

A serial thief was last week jailed on charges which included threatening behaviour at a Hamilton address.

James Donnelly, of no fixed abode, had repeatedly banged on the door of a house in Hamilton’s Abbotsford Avenue on October 4 and shouted incoherently.

The 47-year-old had also shouted, swore and demanded a cigarette from the occupants of a car at an address in the town’s Victoria Street on the same date.

Donnelly admitted two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour along with a charge of being found at the Abbotsford Avenue address when it could be inferred he intended to commit theft there.

All of the charges stated Donnelly had been on bail on another matter at the time.

Donnelly has an extensive criminal record which includes numerous theft by shoplifting offences.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff David Bicket sentenced the accused to five months’ imprisonment in cumulo on the charges.

Thirty days of the sentence was due to the bail aggravation.
