Stam­pof ap­proval forken’s 50years

La­nark­shire Philatelic So­ci­ety met on Fri­day even­ing in Hamil­ton for a spe­cial talk.

Mem­ber Ken Nor­ris has never missed an even­ing in the group’s 50-year his­tory.

And he en­ter­tained his au­di­ence with a dis­play about Bri­tish writ­ers.

A club spokesper­son said: “He gave a won­der­ful dis­play of stamps, cov­ers, me­ter marks, ca­chets and post­cards all re­lat­ing, in al­pha­bet­i­cal or­der, to authors and their writ­ings in books, poetry and comics.”

Authors who fea­tured in the talk in­cluded the Bron­tës, JM Bar­rie, Robert Burns, Ge­of­frey Chaucer, Agatha Christie, Roald Dahl, Daniel De­foe, El­iz­a­beth Gaskell and Daphne du Mau­rier.

Elsie Miller led fel­low mem­bers in thank­ing Mr Nor­ris for “an ed­u­ca­tional dis­play”.

The so­ci­ety’s next meet­ing will in the Cale­do­nian Bowl­ing Club, Mother­well Road, Hamil­ton, on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 13, at 7.30pm.

Mem­bers will give their dis­plays on the theme of ‘Golden’. Any­one with an in­ter­est in stamps, postal his­tory or post­cards is very wel­come to at­tend.
