Lanarkshire Philatelic Society met on Friday, November 3, in Hamilton.

Members listened to Gary Cheyne’s talk on ‘The Scottish Soldier’.

Through postcards, stamps and covers, he traced the development of Scottish soldiers from their beginnings as clan groups and garrisons in various castles.

The display gave details of some of the many battles fought by the Highland regiments.

And members viewed postcards of various regiments – The Highland Light Infantry; The Seaforth Highlanders; Royal Scots Greys; The Cameronians; The Black Watch; The Coldstream Guards; The Scots Guards; The Royal Scots; Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders; King’s Own Scottish Borderers; and The Gordon Highlanders.

Many of these evoked memories, as some members had served themselves in the Second World War.

The club’s next meeting will be in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, on Friday, November 17, at 7.30pm.

All are welcome to attend.
