County duo head to Oz for Games

-

Hamilton’s Kirsty Gilmour spearheads an eight-strong Team Scotland badminton squad who aim to bring success back from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Gilmour and Motherwell star Alex Dunn were amongst the squad that flew to Australia yesterday (Wednesday) hoping to build on success in recent years.

Kirsty said:“i’m really looking forward to firstly just getting over to Gold Coast and getting settled, then I’ll look to prepare for the competition.

“This will be my third Games, so I’ll be looking to utilise the experience I’ve gained in those competitions and put it to good use in Australia.

“It’s going to be a tough event this year but I’ll do everything in my power to be as ready as possible.”

Dunn, who partners Alex Hall in doubles and Eleanor O’donnell in mixed doubles said:“so far the nerves haven’t hit yet but I’m just really excited. I’m absolutely buzzing and can’t wait to get out there.”
