Jump for charity
A Hamilton woman is preparing to take the ultimate leap of faith for charity – by jumping from a plane at 15,000ft.
Danielle Gee is hoping to raise funds for Age UK, which offers a range of support and services to older people.
The 25-year-old will take part in a skydive at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster on June 2, after being inspired into action by her grandparents.
She said: “The skydive is on behalf of Age UK and is something I’ve always wanted to do.
“I have always been lucky enough to have grandparents in my life and I think as I’ve grown older I’ve learnt to appreciate them a lot more.
“I was extremely lucky that when mum and dad were working, I had two sets of the most caring grandparents to look after me.
“As a child, I never appreciated the job of a grandmother and grandfather. To me they were just the people who let you have fun and allowed you to stuff your face!
“But as I’ve grown older I’ve learnt to appreciate my grandparents and the older generation so much more.
“I often sit and think about those who have no family, those who sit in care homes day in day out, watching others get regular visits from loved ones and I pray that it doesn’t happen to me.
“I know not everyone in the world is lucky enough to have had a close bond with their grandparents, and some of the older generation may not have experienced the opportunity of their own loving children and grandchildren.”
She added: “I will complete a charity skydive for Age UK because as I get older and I see my grandparents and parents getting older, I want to be sure that there is support in place if and when they need it.
“Also, I want to know that when I am old and grey, there is people out there to help support me too.”
