Cash boost for cause

- Kirsten Mcstay

A Hamilton-based charity has received a welcome cash boost from the firm behind Buckfast.

Guide Dogs have received a £15,000 donation from J Chandler and Co – the company who distribute the tonic wine.

The sum will put three guide dog puppies through their first year of training.

Stewart Wilson from J Chandler and Co presented the cheque to Guide Dogs at their office in Hamilton.

He said: “We are pleased to support Guide Dogs with the sum of £15,000.

“The cost involved in training and supporting a guide dog partnership is very high, and without donations from the public many people in Scotland would be without the services of a guide dog.

“We are delighted that our donation will help put three puppies through their first year of training.”

Kyla Stratton, business development manager at Guide Dogs, said: “We’re really grateful for the donation, which will set three puppies on their way to becoming fully-fledged guide dogs.

“There are currently over 10,000 people in South Lanarkshire living with sight loss and £15,000 is a major contribution to our mobility services. We are delighted to have been chosen among the company’s charitable beneficiaries. It’s only through the support of the local public and business communities that Guide Dogs can maintain its lifelong commitment to people who are blind and partially sighted.”

J Chandler also donated the same sum to the charity last year.
