Final stamp session
The Lanarkshire Philatelic Society held their last meeting of the 2017/18 session last Friday.
Members made sure their final event was eclectic.
The first half of the evening included Alex Magowan showing historic postcards of Hamilton; David Brown remembering 1936 with postcards and stamps of three kings – George V, Edward VIII and George VI; Robin Wishart displaying a variety of errors on stamps; Elsie Miller producing stamp issues of 1970 commemorating the centenary of the death of Charles Dickens; Alex Grimson with a display of signed postcards showing actors in Coronation Street through the years; and Sheila Sinclair with postcards illustrating the history of The Alamo, San Antonio, Texas.
Then the second half of the proceedings included Duncan Mcintyre in the Wild West with postcards and posters of John Wayne; Chris Moffat remembering the difficulties of posting items from Malawi during the postal strike of 1971; Mike Cleary with very colourful stamps and miniature sheets showing the Ebola and Zika viruses.
The society will next meet on Friday, September 7, in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton at 7.30pm.
