Fi­nal stamp ses­sion

The La­nark­shire Philatelic So­ci­ety held their last meet­ing of the 2017/18 ses­sion last Fri­day.

Mem­bers made sure their fi­nal event was eclec­tic.

The first half of the evening in­cluded Alex Magowan show­ing his­toric post­cards of Hamil­ton; David Brown re­mem­ber­ing 1936 with post­cards and stamps of three kings – Ge­orge V, Ed­ward VIII and Ge­orge VI; Robin Wishart dis­play­ing a va­ri­ety of er­rors on stamps; Elsie Miller pro­duc­ing stamp is­sues of 1970 com­mem­o­rat­ing the cen­te­nary of the death of Charles Dick­ens; Alex Grim­son with a dis­play of signed post­cards show­ing ac­tors in Coro­na­tion Street through the years; and Sheila Sin­clair with post­cards il­lus­trat­ing the his­tory of The Alamo, San An­to­nio, Texas.

Then the sec­ond half of the pro­ceed­ings in­cluded Dun­can Mcin­tyre in the Wild West with post­cards and posters of John Wayne; Chris Mof­fat re­mem­ber­ing the dif­fi­cul­ties of post­ing items from Malawi dur­ing the postal strike of 1971; Mike Cleary with very colour­ful stamps and minia­ture sheets show­ing the Ebola and Zika viruses.

The so­ci­ety will next meet on Fri­day, Septem­ber 7, in the Cale­do­nian Bowl­ing Club, Mother­well Road, Hamil­ton at 7.30pm.
