He made the country proud when he won bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, so St John’s Primary were absolutely delighted to welcome Marc Austin recently.

The Dixon Street pupils were superexcited when the athlete brought his medal along.

He won it at the triathlon, which was a 750m open-water swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run.

Head teacher Alison Hope said: “Marc hosted question and answer sessions with children from primary four to primary seven.

“The children had been busy researching questions to ask Marc about his career, and about competing triathlons.

“At the sessions, Marc proudly showed his medal to learners who were very excited to find out as much as possible about competing at a national level and the dedication it took to get to this stage in his sporting career.

“Children felt inspired to succeed at different sports as well as giving triathlon training a go.

“Marc talked with the children about their sporting journey and was impressed with St John’s having earned a Silver Sport Scotland Award, and encouraged them to work as hard as possible to achieve their gold award.”

Marc is pictured showing his medal to Rosie Thomson, Megan Chalmers, Jayden Millarvie, Miya Mccolvin, Umais Mohammad and William Shanks. in
