Medal honours
Lanark Amateur Swimming Club took three medals and 71 personal best times from the West District Sprints Championships.
A 28-strong squad took part in the competition at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.
Lanark’s Millie Mcarthur won the 11/12 years 50m backstroke and was third in 50m freestyle.
In the 17/18 girls’50m breaststroke, Shiona Mcclafferty finished second, and reached three other finals.
Erin Snow and Ellarose Stewart were the club’s other finalists.
After the two-day event, coach Karen Kelly said:“i would like to pay tribute to Shiona, who is going to Stirling University soon and this was probably one of her last events for the club.
“She has represented the club with distinction in mainstream swimming, winning district medals and reaching finals at the nationals.
“Over the past few years Shiona has represented Britain at European and World Deaf Championships.
“She was a European finalist and won bronze at the World Championships.
“None of that can be achieved without a great level of commitment to training, not just being there but working hard in the pool.”
