Hamilton Park Racecourse is bringing the season to a close with a double-header of entertainment and sporting action.

Thousands are expected to descend on the venue for the September Weekend Music Raceday on Sunday, September 23, followed by the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation Family Raceday the following afternoon.

Hamilton’s rising music star Stephanie Cheape will be taking to the stage on Sunday, after being named Best Unsigned Act at the Scottish Music Awards.

And 80s pop act Hipsway will also be performing hits like The Honeythief and Tinder after the day’s racing action.

Before the live music on Sunday, the racing action will take centre stage from 2pm with the feature race, the £12,500 EBF Stallions Scottish Premier Series Fillies’ Handicap Stakes, the highlight of the on-track action.

The very next day, the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation Family Raceday will bring the curtain down on the season with a funfilled afternoon of racing and family activities as once again the racecourse team is set to roll-out an array of children’s entertainment. Attractions include giant inflatables, human table football, face painters, bungee trampolines, Wii Switch battle and much more.

As well as a seven-race card of top-quality action on the track, including the £13,000 #proud to be a dream maker Veterans’ Handicap Stakes (Class 4), the winners of the Owners’, Trainers’ and Jockeys’ Championships will be revealed. Local trainer Keith Dalgleish is currently leading the Trainers’ Championship ahead of Richard Fahey.

Exciting young jockey Jamie Gormley is also on track to become Hamilton Park Champion Apprentice Jockey and possibly Hamilton Park Champion Jockey overall.

Vivien Currie, chief executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “The 2018 season has brought another year of topclass sport, music and family entertainment to the people of Lanarkshire and beyond, and with the September Weekend Music Raceday and the Family Raceday, we are gearing up for more of the same to close the season in style.

“What’s more, all entertainment and activities on September 24 are included in your ticket price, with under- 18s going free. These events truly make the perfect bank holiday activities for families, music lovers or those just looking for a truly fantastic day out.”
