Police check found child porn

Hamilton Advertiser - - NEWS -

A convicted sex offender caught with child porn has avoided a prison sentence.

Police carrying out a routine check found that Alistair Fisher had 33 indecent images of youngsters on his ipad, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard last week.

Fisher (37), a prisoner, admitted downloading the images at his flat in Windmill Road, Hamilton, or elsewhere between June 11 and 14 this year.

Callum Forsyth, prosecuting, said the accused was on the sex offenders’ register and police officers from the offenders management unit went to his home to check that he was complying with the register’s requirements.

Mr Forsyth explained: “he allowed them to carry out an inspection of his electronic devices. He went to his bedroom to collect these items, but officers were suspicious at the time he was taking to do this.

“Eventually an ipad and a phone were handed over. He was trying to delete something from his phone as he gave it to the police.

“He appeared to be anxious and when asked why, said he had been looking at different kinds of pornography.”

Sheriff Shiona Waldron put Fisher, who had been in custody since his arrest, under supervision and on the sex offenders’ register for three years.

The sheriff also ordered him to do 200 hours of unpaid community work.
