Bottle attack thug is spared jail
A man has avoided prison after a bottle attack in a Hamilton bar.
Shayne Brown (20), of Clydesdale Avenue, Hamilton, appeared at the town’s sheriff court. He admitted assaulting Scott Mcinall to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Bar Milano at the Avonbridge Hotel on November 4 last year.
Prosecutor Michael Macintosh, said there was a“background of animosity” between Brown and Mr Mcinall (28).
The fiscal added:“it’s suggested that this is in respect of unpaid debts.
“CCTV showed the accused approach Mr Mcinall within the bar and strike him two blows to the right side of the head with what appears to be a glass bottle.
“The accused immediately turned and left the area.”
The victim suffered two cuts of 4cm and 2cm. These were closed with nine stitches and medical opinion is Mr Mcinall will be left with a small scar.
Defence agent Jackson Bateman said Brown holds down a full-time job and has only one previous conviction, for breach of the peace.
Sheriff David Bicket imposed a community payback order as an alternative to custody. Brown will be supervised for 18 months and must do 230 hours of unpaid community work.
