Jailfornose breakthug

- COURT REPORTER

A serial offender who broke his girlfriend’s nose has been sent to prison for 16 months.

Andrew Bonnar was also banned from any contact with Lauren Anderson for two years – despite her insisting she’s happy to live with him.

Bonnar, 23, admitted punching Ms Anderson on the face to her severe injury at a house in Limetree Quadrant, Viewpark, on March 11.

He also admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards police officers in nearby Glenburn Crescent.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Bonnar shouted abuse, took off his top, stood in front of the police vehicle and struggled violently with officers.

His lawyer, Laura Kiernan, said the couple had been drinking and alcohol was “the crux of the problem” for Bonnar.

She added: “He was shocked when he realised the extent of her injury.

“He has taken steps while in prison to resolve his issues with alcohol.

“Ms Anderson has contacted me to say if he does that and gets help with his mental health they would be happy together, caring for their daughter.”

But Sheriff Douglas Brown pointed out that Bonnar has three previous convictions for offences aggravated by domestic abuse.

He believed a non-harassment order was needed in order to protect Ms Anderson.

The sheriff said the 16-month sentence was reduced from two years because of his guilty pleas and backdated it to March 12.
