Haunted house tale with a twist
The Pact starts as a generic haunted house tale, albeit in a dingy bungalow instead of a gothic mansion, but develops into something more.
Writer-director Nicholas Mccarthy creates a creepy, mostly unsettling watch.
It’s very slowburn but with strong acting, and the scares are boosted by Ronen Landa’s screechy, nails on a blackboard-type score.
The film’s big twist is very surprising and helps The Pact rise above typical supernatural thriller fare, although it does severely stretch credibility levels.
