BOOK OF THE MONTH

Hampshire Life - - Insider's Guide -

‘A cross between “Hornblower and James Bond” is how the central character Jack Browne is described by Rear Admiral Paddy McAlpine, ex- CO HMS Daring. Bluestreak, written by Hampshire author Mike Klidjian, a recently retired Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy, is the first in a series featuring this highly authentic naval hero. The book crams pace, action and a thrilling plot with technical accuracy that only someone who has experienced modern warfare at sea could know.

Jack Browne is serving as Boarding Officer for the Type 45 Destroyer HMS Diana on patrol in the Indian Ocean. During a seemingly routine boarding, he confronts a hypnotic older man dressed in robes. The man’s team spirit him away despite Jack’s intervention, but Jack is left with the memory of the man’s piercing eyes and an unnerving feeling that they will meet again.

The arrival of a stricken super yacht presents a good opportunity for Jack and his team to use their expertise in ‘Fast Rope Insertion’. Jack saves the yacht and the crew, but all is not what it seems.
