Dozens take up the offer of free coaching
EASTCOTE Hockey Club gave young players a chance to try the sport at free coaching sessions.
The club provided 20 hours of training for 70 children aged between six and 16 at its base in Kings College Road, Ruislip.
Coach Paul Loudon led last week’s sessions, which were aimed at children new to the game or wanting to start playing, with help from other Eastcote members.
He said: “We have run these before and had superb results, but this was really special with so many youngsters coming to try hockey, in some particularly varying weather conditions.
“The children had a great time, and as always we had several shining stars that we hope to see playing in our adult teams of the future.”
The week of sport was funded by the club and The London Mayor’s Freesport scheme, which meant the coaching was provided free of charge to all participants.
Eastcote’s new season of colts coaching starts on Sunday, on September 7 for the U10s and the following week for the rest of the age groups.
Eastcote host their annual club weekend on September 6 and 7 as part of England Hockey’s National Club Weekend.
There will be a mixed tournament for men, ladies and colts, and guests can have a go at the sport free of charge on the Sunday.
The men’s and ladies’ teams will also play friendlies against Ramgarhia and Witney respectively on the Saturday.
