More than slim chance for help
Weight loss group donate to foodbank
A WEIGHT loss group has clubbed together to donate to Hillingdon Foodbank.
After reading the Gazette’s coverage in June about usage of the Hillingdon Foodbank shooting up by 300 per cent over the past year, Slimming World groups in Hayes and Harlington decided to help.
“We were worried about the strain of the cost of the school holidays would have on local families in crisis,” said Stacey Cannon, team manager for Slimming World.
“We sprung to action and started collecting donations from members.
“It’s just so heartwarming to know that our members care so much for the local community and the sheer volume of donations show this.
“People think that we are just about losing weight, but it goes far deeper than that.”
Another local consultant, Debbie Conway, said: “I’ve just been blown away by the generosity of the members in the Hayes area.
“Members are already asking us when we will be coordinating another collection.
“It’s something we are very keen to do.”
When the Trussell Trust launched foodbanks in London in 2000, there were only six. Today there are 39, with numbers constantly increasing.
There are now 280 Foodbanks across the UK.
