‘Beds in sheds’ pair fined to­tal of £12k

A COU­PLE have jointly been fined £12,000 after fail­ing to stop charg­ing peo­ple for liv­ing in a ‘beds in sheds’ out­build­ing.

Man­jit Singh Virk and Paramjit Kaur Virk ad­mit­ted breach­ing a plan­ning en­force­ment no­tice at Uxbridge Mag­is­trates’ Court on Tues­day, Au­gust 19.

They were also or­dered to pay £2,472 to cover Hilling­don Coun­cil’s le­gal costs.

The cou­ple, from Iver, had been il­le­gally charg­ing rent for peo­ple to live in an out­build­ing in Ro­seville Road, Hayes.

A neigh­bour alerted the coun­cil’s plan­ning en­force­ment team, which ob­tained a war­rant to ac­cess the premises.
