Uxbridge regroup to take down Phoenix
FRIENDLY Phoenix 27 Uxbridge 31 UXBRIDGE came from 17 points down to edge out Phoenix in their pre-season run-out on Saturday, writes Adam Jones.
The visitors had a number of players unavailable because of the summer holidays and with some having to play out of position they started on the back foot.
And they struggled to cope with the power of Phoenix as they ran in three tries in the first quarter of the match.
Uxbridge regrouped and made a few changes and with players now back in their familiar positions they began to turn the game around.
The visitors were slowly making fewer mistakes and running better lines and the first try eventually came after some excellent running by Mark Wilson and Jordan Lille.
With some new found confidence, Uxbridge clawed themselves back into the game and, with the scrum working well, a couple more tries were added.
Both sides then made a number of changes to give players a run-out and the sides continued to exchange tries, but in the end it was the visitors who just about came out on top.
Uxbridge play their first competitive game on Saturday when they visit Merton in the RFU Junior Vase Cup preliminary round, while Ruislip kick off their London One North campaign at Barking.
