Nifty screws offered to cut down the number of licence plate thefts
FOR opportunist thieves, their number could be up thanks to a nifty device.
Hillingdon Police teamed up with Halfords in Uxbridge to promote special anti-theft screws designed to keep a number plate where it should be: on the car to which it is registered.
The borough has suffered from a spate of plate thefts lately – the thieves usually use them to disguise another car’s identity for crimes such as petrol theft from a garage.
The special screws are being offered free of charge at the shop in Harefield Road, subject to availability, and fitting is free too.
Acting Sergeant James Burgess of Hillingdon police said: “This initiative will raise awareness of the problem, and offer residents a free and easy way to protect their vehicles.”
