Walk to pro­mote peace

THE MAYOR of Hilling­don and the po­lice bor­ough com­man­der will lead lo­cal faith groups in a peace walk in Uxbridge town cen­tre.

The walk, or­gan­ised by Hilling­don Coun­cil, the po­lice and Hilling­don In­ter Faith Net­work, is held an­nu­ally and marks a com­mit­ment to a safe and peace­ful bor­ough.

The mayor, Coun­cil­lor Cather­ine Dann, said: “We recog­nise how im­por­tant it is for our whole com­mu­nity to work to­gether and we wel­come events like this walk, which brings to­gether peo­ple from dif­fer­ent faiths and back­grounds with the common goal of peace.

“This

is

the

eighth an­nual Peace Walk and it con­tin­ues to grow from strength to strength,” she added.

The mayor will be joined in lead­ing the walk – which starts at 1.30pm on Sun­day, Septem­ber 21, by Hilling­don bor­ough com­man­der, De­tec­tive Chief Su­per­in­ten­dent Nick Down­ing.

It be­gins at Uxbridge Po­lice Sta­tion, in War­wick Place, off Hare­field Road, and heads to­wards the intu shop­ping cen­tre.

Speeches will be made and there will be per­for­mances by the Met­ro­pol­i­tan Po­lice Ser­vice’s Emer­ald So­ci­ety Pipes and Drums band, Uxbridge dance group Fu­tu­nity and chil­dren from lo­cal schools.
