Ab­bots give Wake-up call to the op­po­si­tion

Re­lent­less vis­i­tors over­run hosts led by fault­less fly-half RUGBY UNION

Dale Brim­ble got the ac­tion un­der way, with Wake con­vert­ing the first try of the day, be­fore Neil Gordge and Liam McPher­son scor­ing in quick suc­ces­sion.

Kyle Buck­ing­ham got his name on the score­sheet along­side Wake – who con­verted all first half tries – just be­fore the break, to rush into an unas­sail­able 38-0 lead.

The re­lent­less Ab­bots con­tin­ued their on­slaught when just min­utes into the sec­ond half, both Buck­ing­ham and Wake scored tries, again con­verted by the lat­ter.

get frus­trated, with a card is­sued for the il­le­gal use of a boot, while Wake’s kick­ing helped the vis­i­tors breeze to­wards the points.

Dan Tuck­well scored the fi­nal try of the match, again con­verted by the fault­less Wake, to wrap up a fan­tas­tic win that puts then top of the early Herts & Middx Di­vi­sion Two ta­ble.

Ab­bots will hope to con­tinue their great start when host­ing Herts side Chess Val­ley on Satur­day.

Uxbridge are fifth in the same di­vi­sion after a 17-5 vic­tory over neigh­bours Ick­en­ham.

After fall­ing 12-0 be­hind just after the in­ter­val, Ick­en­ham full­back Dave Howard scored late on to give the vis­i­tors hope, be­fore Uxbridge sealed the vic­tory.

Ed Bail­don, Nick Guy, Dan Lewis and Si­mon Batts got on the score­sheet for the home side, who are at Mill Hill on Satur­day, while Ick­en­ham host Hen­don.

Else­where, Old Mer­chant Tay­lors’ suf­fered a 34-3 home de­feat against Har­row in London Two North West.

They took the lead with a penalty, but a ram­pant Har­row side came back to emerge vic­to­ri­ous.

OMT will be aim­ing to get back to win­ning ways at Tabard. this week­end.

In London One North, Ruis­lip flew into a 20-0 lead against Thur­rock, but ul­ti­mately came up short.

Thur­rock pulled a try back just be­fore the break, and it proved in­flu­en­tial as Ruis­lip col­lapsed in the sec­ond half, los­ing 33-23.

Ruis­lip will be hop­ing to bounce back on Satur­day, when they travel to Rom­ford & Gidea Park.
