Eastcote fall just short in ex­cit­ing en­counter

HE­LEN Wil­liams and Lucy Allen both scored as Eastcote Ladies fell marginally short of vic­tory in their open­ing match of the sea­son.

In an ex­cit­ing en­counter at the Eas­tro, Eastcote took the ini­tia­tive, with Wil­liams forc­ing an early save from the vis­it­ing Ox­ford Hawks goal­keeper.

The Hawks’ hit back with a goal, how­ever, set­ting off a quick­fire phase of goals, with Eastcote equal­is­ing through Wil­liams, be­fore Ox­ford re­gained their lead – both from cor­ners.

Allen fin­ished early off a su­perb team move in the sec­ond half, be­fore another cor­ner pro­vided the piv­otal chance for the Hawks to se­cure vic­tory.

Mean­while, the men won their fi­nal pre-sea­son match 5-0 against Wok­ing, tak­ing the lead through Peter Brooks, be­fore Alex Sto­b­bart and David Cooper helped com­plete the em­phatic win.

Cap­tain Sto­b­bart will be re­lieved to have scored, after bring­ing him­self off the bench to take a penalty and miss­ing.

Mean­while, Nina Hay­don-Guppy put in a lively per­for­mance as Old Mer­chant Tay­lors’ Duchesses be­gan life in Mid­dle­sex Women’s League Di­vi­sion Two with an open­ing- day 7-0 win against Old Ux­o­ni­ans. Hay­don-Guppy scored twice in the first half, ei­ther side of a Michelle Coupar ef­fort.

Coupar added her sec­ond min­utes after the break, be­fore player-coach Dawn Whit­more struck twice.

Coupar rounded off the vic­tory with her third in the dy­ing em­bers of the match to put the Duchesses top of the ta­ble.

Oli Wilkins scored a brace to help OMT’s men to a 4-1 win in their pre-sea­son match against West Hamp­stead thirds.

After a drab first half, the game burst into life. Wilkins scored, be­fore Hamp­stead re­tal­i­ated from a short cor­ner to quickly level the scores.

A fur­ther strike from Wilkins, who also gained an as­sist, helped OMT to vic­tory.
