History repeats itself in Pilborough final
CATHY Pilborough successfully defended her ladies singles title against Tracy Lederer at the Northwood Tennis Club finals day,
Pilborough (pictured) comfortably saw off her opponent in straight sets, winning both 6-1, in what proved to be a carbon copy of last year’s final.
Lederer was also a runner-up
the ladies doubles ith Angela Ghosh s the pair were eaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 y Alita Davern and Derval Russell. Duncan Chorley nd John Ghosh aced off in the men’s singles final for the fourth consecutive time with the former’s ability to retrieve and hit deep shots yet again proving the difference, as he emerged victorious 6-4 6-1.
Ghosh did take home a winner’s medal though in the men’s doubles, alongside Fergal Davern, who together beat veteran David George and Colin McCarthy 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.
In the mixed doubles final, the Daverns each won their second trophy of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Ghoshs, while in the veterans’ mixed doubles George teamed up with Sue Mansfield to overcome Norma Leggett and David Cameron 7-5, 6-3.
During the winter months the club runs internal club mixed doubles tournament as well as external matches.
