His­tory re­peats it­self in Pil­bor­ough fi­nal

CATHY Pil­bor­ough suc­cess­fully de­fended her ladies sin­gles ti­tle against Tracy Led­erer at the North­wood Ten­nis Club fi­nals day,

Pil­bor­ough (pic­tured) com­fort­ably saw off her op­po­nent in straight sets, win­ning both 6-1, in what proved to be a car­bon copy of last year’s fi­nal.

Led­erer was also a run­ner-up

the ladies dou­bles ith An­gela Ghosh s the pair were eaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 y Alita Dav­ern and Der­val Rus­sell. Dun­can Chor­ley nd John Ghosh aced off in the men’s sin­gles fi­nal for the fourth con­sec­u­tive time with the for­mer’s abil­ity to re­trieve and hit deep shots yet again prov­ing the dif­fer­ence, as he emerged vic­to­ri­ous 6-4 6-1.

Ghosh did take home a win­ner’s medal though in the men’s dou­bles, along­side Fer­gal Dav­ern, who to­gether beat veteran David George and Colin McCarthy 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

In the mixed dou­bles fi­nal, the Dav­erns each won their sec­ond trophy of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 vic­tory over the Ghoshs, while in the vet­er­ans’ mixed dou­bles George teamed up with Sue Mans­field to over­come Norma Leggett and David Cameron 7-5, 6-3.

Dur­ing the win­ter months the club runs in­ter­nal club mixed dou­bles tour­na­ment as well as ex­ter­nal matches.
