Poole clinches the title
BETTY Poole was one of the big winners of this year’s Harlington Bowls Club’s finals as she sealed the Women’s Championship crown.
Poole defeated Brenda Reed 21-14 to win the title but the runner-up did gets her hands on silverware – and revenge on Poole – when she triumphed when the two met in the Yardstick final 12-6.
Reed was also victorious 27-7 against Cathy Fitzgerald in the handicap and runner-up in the 75 points, two wood pairs and mixed pairs finals.
Fitzgerald did go home with two titles though in the two woods pairs and mixed pairs, as did Joan Fulbrook, who landed the 75 points and two wood singles.
In the two woods pairs, Mary Redpath and Fitzgerald teamed up to defeat Fulbrook and Reed 15-12.
Steve Brennan finished with three victories emerging victorious in the men’s handicap, mixed pair and mixed triple finals.
Brennan defeated Derek Cutmore in two of those finals, although the latter had something to celebrate when he got his hands on the Men’s Championship.
Don Maylin, beaten 21-5 by Cutmore in the Championship match, earned victory over Alan Macolive in the two wood singles 21-13.
In the men’s club pairs, Fred Valentine and Cutmore saw off Peter Rance and Dave Anderson 21-19, while Rance won the two wood pairs alongside Macolive, beating Valentine and Cutmore 21-14.
Brennan’s other two titles came with Fitzgerald in the mixed pairs, and Valentine and Val Brooks in the mixed triples.
