Eng­land player’s talk at school awards

AN ENG­LAND women’s rugby player was guest of hon­our at a school awards cer­e­mony.

Par­ents and staff cel­e­brated the im­pres­sive achieve­ments of stu­dents at North­wood School in Pot­ter Street at its an­nual awards evening on Septem­ber 17 where they heard from rugby player Leanne Ri­ley, who was part of the suc­cess­ful Eng­land Sevens team that lifting the IRB Chal­lenge Cup Sevens Crown in Hong Kong in 2012.

She is aim­ing to play Rugby Sevens in the sport’s Olympic de­but at the Rio 2016 Games.

Head teacher Mark An­der­son said: “I am de­lighted that Leanne Ri­ley agreed to be our Guest of Hon­our.

“She gave an in­spir­ing talk to the au­di­ence which en­cour­aged our stu­dents to aim high and work hard. This has been an ab­so­lutely won­der­ful evening.

“We are blessed with truly fan­tas­tic stu­dents at North­wood and the award re­cip­i­ents are at the pin­na­cle of this. They have done tremen­dously well.”
