Sentence for 1996 murder
A MAN is to be sentenced on Thursday, October 9 after being convicted of a historic murder.
In December last year, Kiranjit Uppal denied murdering Harminder Singh Jhaghra, a 28-yearold who lived in Southall and died after receiving a stab wound to the arm in 1996 in North Hyde Road, Hayes, during a fight.
Almost two decades on, Uppal, of no fixed address, was convicted by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday, October 6.
Uppal was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to another man.
Friends of the victim took to Twitter to welcome the sentencing.
@LuckyParkhouse wrote on the social media platform: “Finally! It’s been a long haul for the family but at last #JusticeforHarminder.”
Uppal was arrested in September last year when arriving at Heathrow Airport on a flight from India.
