Sen­tence for 1996 mur­der

A MAN is to be sentenced on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 9 after be­ing con­victed of a his­toric mur­der.

In De­cem­ber last year, Ki­ran­jit Up­pal de­nied mur­der­ing Har­min­der Singh Jhaghra, a 28-yearold who lived in Southall and died after re­ceiv­ing a stab wound to the arm in 1996 in North Hyde Road, Hayes, dur­ing a fight.

Almost two decades on, Up­pal, of no fixed ad­dress, was con­victed by a jury at Isle­worth Crown Court on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 6.

Up­pal was also found guilty of caus­ing griev­ous bod­ily harm to another man.

Friends of the vic­tim took to Twit­ter to wel­come the sen­tenc­ing.

@Luck­yPark­house wrote on the so­cial me­dia plat­form: “Fi­nally! It’s been a long haul for the fam­ily but at last #Jus­tice­forHar­min­der.”

Up­pal was ar­rested in Septem­ber last year when ar­riv­ing at Heathrow Air­port on a flight from In­dia.
