Cubs and beavers set trend
EASTCOTE: The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens have announced the first recipient of the Eastcote House Gardens Community Award.
FEHG already award the Hinman Shield each year, which began in the 1980s with conservationists Sheila Liberty and Margaret Ward Dyer. It is given to schools and other groups who visit regularly for gardening sessions, local history lessons and activities, such as a recent archaeological dig.
The shield is still in operation, but the Friends said there are several outstanding groups to choose from and they could not give it to everyone.
FEHG members and passionate conservationists Joan and Terry Butfield have sponsored the new award, which was presented on Monday to 6th Eastcote Cubs and Beavers by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Eastcote councillor Catherine Dann, at the Scout Hut, in Southbourne Gardens, on Monday.
