Cubs and beavers set trend

EASTCOTE: The Friends of Eastcote House Gar­dens have an­nounced the first re­cip­i­ent of the Eastcote House Gar­dens Com­mu­nity Award.

FEHG al­ready award the Hin­man Shield each year, which be­gan in the 1980s with con­ser­va­tion­ists Sheila Lib­erty and Mar­garet Ward Dyer. It is given to schools and other groups who visit reg­u­larly for gar­den­ing ses­sions, lo­cal his­tory lessons and ac­tiv­i­ties, such as a re­cent archaeological dig.

The shield is still in op­er­a­tion, but the Friends said there are sev­eral out­stand­ing groups to choose from and they could not give it to ev­ery­one.

FEHG mem­bers and pas­sion­ate con­ser­va­tion­ists Joan and Terry But­field have spon­sored the new award, which was pre­sented on Mon­day to 6th Eastcote Cubs and Beavers by the Mayor of Hilling­don, Eastcote coun­cil­lor Cather­ine Dann, at the Scout Hut, in South­bourne Gar­dens, on Mon­day.
