Uttley shows great spirit
HILLINGDON Gymnastics Club’s Alex Uttley has received the Spirit of Gymnastics accolade at the annual Nik Stuart Foundation Awards.
The former Spelbound member (pictured), the acrobat winners of TV’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2010, was given the award in recognition of his devotion, achievement and positive attitude towards the sport.
Uttley is currently a coach at Botwell Green Sports and Leisure Centre and has represented Great Britain multiple times in World and European championships.
The Nik Stuart Foundation was inaugurated in 2003 in Stuart’s memory to observe his example in the fellowship and culture of gymnastics, with the ethos and aim to befriend, serve, encourage, help, honour and award exceptional persons associated with the many facets of gymnastics.
In 1956, Stuart became British Champion, a title he retained for the next nine years, and in 1962 he received an MBE, before becoming national coach for the British Amateur Gymnastics Association.
